Parramatta were hammered by a dominant North Queensland side last week. The Cowboys were looking to send Johnathan Thurston out with a win in his final home match before retiring with the Eels facing them at the worst possible time as they went down 44-6.

The Eels have made a plethora of positional changes with Jarryd Hayne moving to fullback with Corey Norman back to five-eighth and Jaeman Salmon dropped to the bench. Reed Mahoney is the starting hooker with Cameron King on the bench whilst Brad Takairangi moves to the second row with Tepai Moeroa locking the scrum with Peni Terepo out.

Last week’s defeat has all but ensured that the Eels will take this season’s wooden spoon and it will be deserved for a side that has spent the vast majority of the season propping up the table. The Eels have won just six games which isn’t good enough for a squad of their talent.

Sydney Roosters were beaten by an impressive Brisbane outfit last week. The Broncos were the better side for much of the game and punished the Roosters who were guilty of too many errors as well as ill-discipline as they went down 8-22.

Dylan Napa is banned and might not play again this season, depending on how the Roosters progress in the play-offs. He is replaced by Jared Waerea-Hargreaves who has recovered from a rib injury.

Back-to-back defeats has seen the Roosters’ hopes of claiming the minor Premiership evaporate. They can still claim the crown but would be reliant on Melbourne losing as well as a big swing in points differential. The Roosters will now be aiming for second place to ensure a home semi-final.
